Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, with support from the African Union Commission and development partner GIZ, has concluded a two-day multi-stakeholder technical session on Liberia’s Draft National Data Policy.

The engagement marks a major milestone in Liberia’s efforts to establish a coherent national framework for data governance, protection, and utilization, a critical pillar of the country’s growing digital transformation agenda. Effective data management and privacy protection are increasingly central to promoting transparency, efficiency, and inclusive socio-economic development.

The consultation, held from Wednesday, January 28 to Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Cape Hotel in Monrovia, brought together representatives from government ministries and agencies, civil society organizations, development partners, the private sector, and the media.

The primary objective of the technical sessions was to finalize the Draft Data Policy in preparation for a forthcoming National Validation Exercise.

Participants reviewed inputs gathered during earlier stakeholder consultations held in November 2025, which were incorporated into the current draft. The sessions provided a platform to harmonize perspectives, address outstanding issues, and ensure the policy reflects Liberia’s national development priorities and international best practices.

Officials from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications emphasized that the finalized policy will serve as a foundation for safeguarding personal data, strengthening digital trust, and enabling responsible data use across public and private sectors.

The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive stakeholder participation and has called on all partners to continue engaging as Liberia moves toward the national validation phase and eventual adoption of the Data Policy.
